Couple Endos I've met claim that Thyroid replacement(TR) therapy cause an elevation in SHBG, thus binding free T and result in loss of libido.
Tried to locate references on medline for this but could not find anything.
It seems odd, as most people (men and women) who are hypothyroid, report an increase in libido after starting TR. Could this be a situation where there is a gradual increase in SHBG, after long-term use?
::Thyroid replacement for the hypothyroid person should cause a general upregulation of cellular output likely increasing testosterone more than SHBG which is somewhat regulated by its need to bind sex hormones which are at too high levels. Of course libido is also dependent on energy and feeling of well being both of which are also increased by thyroid replacement.

The effects of a thyroidectomy and thyroxine (T4) replacement on the spontaneous and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)-stimulated secretion of testosterone and the production of adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) in rat testes were studied. Thyroidectomy decreased the basal levels of plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone, which delayed the maximal response of testosterone to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and hCG in male rats. T4 replacement in Read more...
